A Week Away From The Baltic Social Gig

Practice tonight with Elle Schillereff (backing singer), bassist (Adam Greenwood) and percussionist (Chris Cousineau) was really nice.

Despite the immense fear that I was about to walk outside and be blown into outer space by an extreme gale, the area of the world I happen to be resident in is (at this moment) not too affected by some of the crazy weather we’re having.

Recently, I have gone gaga over the sound of Adam’s double bass. I am astonishingly attracted to novelty items, but I have the feeling this is something that’s sonically necessarily for most of the songs.

Elle’s enthusiasm for being part of the process never ceases to amaze me. Looking forward to next Wednesday’s gig at The Baltic Social supporting the incredible Kalandra.

Science of the Lamps, Snow Apple, Alexander’s

Just got in from a gig in Chester supporting local band Science of the Lamps and Snow Apple from Amsterdam.

Really great night! Voice not in the best of shape to be honest, but as usual people didn’t seem to notice as much as I did. Steph Baker got up and sang on a few songs as well.

Terrific seeing the Lamps with a drummer – Luke Moore in particular seemed to have really got into it on the cello – was like watching Mr Darcey rock out.

Good night.

This on Monday evening, during a thunderstorm and after a Woody Allen-like quip that got his attention, made me very happy. This up here ^ .

Then the next night, Owen followed me and, in response to another quip, posted this:

Owen Jones 2

Which was nice.

Massive admiration for Owen Jones – he seems to be the right-wing press’ whipping boy of choice currently.

Recent Filming and Interviews with Culture City Television and Felix Brassier

Recently, I have had a bit of involvement with local filmmakers and music aficionados Culture City Television and fantastic internationalist and beautiful-eyed Frenchman Felix Brassier for Starved Magazine.

Both ventures were very different but both incredibly fun and rewarding. I would like to see Joe Campbell (CEO of CCTV) and Felix Brassier have a pint, or maybe work together some day for sure!

The interview at Parr Street and the performances are rare moments of the day where I wasn’t in hysterical giggles over everything.
